This invention relates to a flame retardant composition for synthetic resin useful as a coating, a cast plate and a film, and a synthetic resin containing the same.
II. Description of the Prior Art
As synthetic resins used in a wide variety of applications, particularly in the fields of building materials, automobiles, electrical appliances, and so on, are used polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate, polytrimethylene terephthalate, polybutylene terephthalate and the like; polycarbonates such as polyalkylene carbonates; polyallylate such as polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate; polyamides such as polycaprolactam and polyhexamethylene hexamethylene terephthalamide; polyacetals; polyarylates and polyphenylene oxides. Among these, the polyesters are most popularly used as they are excellent in mechanical and electrical properties and tend to be processed under mild conditions.
In order to protect a human body from the harmful influence of radiation in daily life, in the fields of display boards for medical instruments, personal computers and so on, synthetic resin plates for medical instruments and personal computers have come to need an excellent flame retardant property.
While these synthetic resins can be said to be generally excellent in properties, they are defective in that a large amount of chlorine such as bromine and iodine is necessary for imparting flame retardancy to the above-mentioned polyesters and that it is disadvantageous in view of the working environment, safety, cost and so on, when a large amount of chlorine is used.
